hey fatty bum bum!
note: this is sort of continuation to my post below, ‘fat malaysians‘.
=====
hey fatty bum bum
you sweet sugar dumpling
hey fatty bum bum
let me tell you something
no, not because you are so big and fat
never let the big size fool you
don’t believe i’m afraid of that
cool day like day cooool.
that is not a poem i made up but some of you might have recognised it as a lyric to a song, ‘hey fatty bum bum’… er… i think in the 70s. i can’t remember who is the singer but must be someone unknown. i do remember the tune of the song esp. the chorus here. nice song actually.
well, after the survey that was done showing that malaysia has the most number of fat people, new straits times (NST) columnist, kathirasen, gave his views on why malaysians are fat.
The reason for Malaysians being plump is not difficult to plumb:
Doctors say we eat too much and don’t exercise enough.But I think our problem starts from the cradle. Look at the way we handle babies these days: We give them whatever they want, we put them in baby-walkers instead of allowing them to take the first step themselves, we confine them to the cot or other small area to protect them. Then, as they grow a little older, we order them to “sit down” or “stop running around”. We are reaping the results of over-protective parental molly-coddling.
When they are in school, they continue to hear the refrains: “Sit down” and “Stop running around”.
They spend almost six hours daily on the chair, with physical exercise twice a week for 40 minutes or so.
At home, they sit in front of the television munching anything they can lay their hands on. Or they sit and stare at the computer screen.
ha! so true. take me for example. morning in office at 8.30am, sit in front of computer and desk… working… working for 8 hours. come back home, after shower, sit in front of TV (7.00pm to 9.30pm) then from 9.30pm onwards till sleeing time in front of computer. see, it’s a sit sit sit. so lazy to go exercise. it’s no wonder i am… obese. as i mentioned earlier, according to my BMI, i am not obese but according to the waistline measurement – i am!! argh! (any man with a waist circumference copious enough to exceed 90cm and any woman whose waistline is more than 80cm.)
time for me to go on diet… or maybe, the easy way out – take acomplia! what’s that? it’s a new anti-fat pill that is now available in britian but yet to come to our land. read about that in this same article by kathirasen.
haha. i’m just joking. of course i would not touch any drugs! well, i did try slimming tea before once. not very effective. ok lah, the best way is to… no, not exercise, i mean yes i know exercise is the best way but i mean to me excercise is not the best way (since i’m a lazy bum). the best way for me is to eat less. it would not be hard to do so during lunch time when i’m in the office since i really don’t like going out for lunch… can just eat biscuit or soup in the office. oh, but i can’t eat less when i’m at home because of the good dishes my mum prepared (even though one dish only). at home, i always take a lot of rice! the rice on my plate is about moutain high! haha! i heard that rice itself is fattening, so i guess i should cut down on rice too. ayoh! susah lah. cut down on this, cut down on that. how am i going to survive?
