guang ming got axed too (though temporary)
first it was the china press (re: squatgate scandal). then the sarawak tribune. and now guang ming daily. yep, after sarawak tribune had been suspended indefinetely, now guang ming daily had been suspended two weeks. gosh. the gomen is really super sensitive… AND double standard – tv3 which showed the cartoons were not touched… AND hypocrites – an arab paper had published the cartoons right on front page and inside (and during the holy month of ramadan), no hue and cry from them.
and do you know that despite the supposedly prohibtion of depicting the image of prophet mohammed, long long ago, many many times, the image of prophet mohammed had already been depicted and there was no hue and cry then.
UPDATED: link of the image site (which showed the present 12 cartoons and lots of others) removed through advise of commenters as i do not want to risk the special branch guys come knocking on my door.
many felt that the gomen’s action in suspending sarawak tribune and now guang ming, means wither free press. yep that may be true but i am more concerned over the gomen getting super highly charged over matters concerning islam (and not over oppression, corruption but over cartoons!) to take such drastic actions, and not forgetting with double standards too.
(refer the 2nd quote below – as what i’m trying to say here)
2 good read letters from malaysiakini:
1. quote:
When it comes to insulting another’s sensibility, people can always find the perfect justification to shield themselves from criticism or taking the responsibility for causing unrest. It is easier to point the fingers at others than to reflect on our own faults. There is plenty of hypocrisy to go around.
2. quote:
If the authorities continue to hound and penalise the newspaper, ostensibly to protect the good name of Islam, they would seem to be demanding the proverbial pound of flesh – an action which is quite repugnant to any religion. It is not a sign of weakness if justice is tempered with mercy.
NOTE: i wonder is it an offence for me now that i have put a link to the images here? should i remove the link?
