    prayer for the new year

POSTED: Saturday, 31/12/05, 7:10 PM   FILED: Uncategorized |

come new year, as usual you will see many people talking bout resolutions or wishes, or some will give an account of whatever significant things/events that happened to her/him during the year.

me? i don’t believe in resolutions and wishes?? same thing… they’ll be only wishful thinking. so what i’m going to do is just post here a lovely, meaninful ‘prayer for the new year’ by one of my favourite poet, helen steiner rice.

    Prayer for the New Year

God, grant us this year a wider view,
So we see others’ faults through
    the eyes of You;
Teach us to judge not with hasty tongue,
Neither the adult … nor the young.

    towering over the pyramid

POSTED: Friday, 30/12/05, 1:23 AM   FILED: Uncategorized |

i don’t get it, someone please enlighten me. how on earth can draping the jalur gemilang (malaysian flag) on the pyramid of giza in egypt be consider as a peace mission? oh, and a ‘towering malaysian’ deed too.

UPDATE: they are not going to drap only the jalur gemilang but also the flags of world’s 57 muslim countries grouped under the organisation of the islamic conference (OIC).

it was reported yesterday that an expedition named “malaysian peace mission”, estimated to cost close to RM200,000, and which will be funded by the selangor government, youth and sports ministry, ex-servicemen’s affairs corporation (perhebat), and programme sponsors, is scheduled to be held from may 15 to 27.

the naked truth by martin jalleh

POSTED: Friday, 30/12/05, 12:56 AM   FILED: Uncategorized |

One does not need to be a seasoned or sharp politician to spot the naked reality that little has changed in this country in spite of the PM’s constant chant of change. The charade of change can be easily seen by the naked eye.

Since the last general elections Pak Lah has been”squatting” rather contentedly on his laurels. On several occasions he has been caught exposing his glaring political impotence when decisive and daring action was demanded.

    today is still christmas

POSTED: Wednesday, 28/12/05, 1:58 AM   FILED: Uncategorized |

warning! a ‘religiousy’ post on jesus christ. do not proceed if you feel not obligated to.
    ————————

The word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maesse, the Mass of Christ, first found in 1038, and Cristes-messe, in 1131. In Dutch it is Kerst-misse, in Latin Dies Natalis, whence comes the French Noël, and Italian Il natale; in German Weihnachtsfest, from the preceeding sacred vigil. The term Yule is of disputed origin. It is unconnected with any word meaning “wheel”. The name in Anglo-Saxon was geol, feast: geola, the name of a month (cf. Icelandic iol a feast in December).
(from new advent’s ‘origin of the word’)

    tsunami - a year ago

POSTED: Monday, 26/12/05, 2:57 AM   FILED: Uncategorized |

“The Dec. 26 earthquake off the coast of Sumatera had a magnitude of 9.3, making it the second most powerful earthquake ever recorded, surpassed only by a 9.5 monster in Chile in 1960. It wrenched up the sea floor along a 1,200km line, unleashing waves that towered up to 15m.”
(excerpts taken from the star paper dated 25 dec. 2005)

26 dec. 2004 - exactly a year ago - who can forget that day when water and earth combined to become such a deadly force. yes, the earthquake that occured in the sea off sumatera, indonesia, resulted in a tsunami that rocked through 12 nations. over 200,000 people were killed, and massive destruction abound.
