eye talk
ok people, today i’m gong to indulge you with some eye talk. yep, today i talk eye talk, ok, as the picture above (of something) says so.
how many of you have perfect vision? oh well, let’s not say perfect but simply that you don’t need glasses/contact lens.
i am short sighted. i started wearing spectacles (we refer to it more as ‘spectacles’. glasses is what the west/europe usually refer to as, right) when i was as young as 10 years old, and it only cost me RM2! no, no, not the fact that at that time (which was ages ago) things were cheap but the fact that it was sponsored by the lions club. yeah, the lions club had this project in which they let every students had their eyes examined, and it was that time that i found out i was short sighted and need to wear a spectacle.
warning! long post ahead! if you want to continue reading (please do… at least just to see the many pictures i have), please click on ‘more’ below.
so i had been wearing spectacles for years and years. when i was in my late teens, i observe people wearing contact lens and i vowed to myself that i would never ever wear contact lens as the thought of putting something foreign inside my eyes scare me. however, i was to eat my own words. when i was in my late 20s, i started to get vain. i started to feel ugly with a specs especially when dating! so i decided to go for contact lens.
you know the first time i started wearing contact lens, it take me ages to take it out after i put it in. i spent about 15mins to learn how to take it out! i guess i did not master the ‘technique’ at that time. now, of course i’m expert at it already. one thing i don’t like about wearing contact lens is that i have to keep the nails on my thumb and forefinger (where i used to pinch the lens) short!
what is power of my eyes? i really don’t know. not sure. it could be around 150 to 200. i always hear people say “her power is 200”, “her power is 100” and i’m not sure what that means. so again i turn to good old google and found out how visual acuity is measured via the snellen chart, you know with the 20/20 vision we heard so much of, of which we know is perfect vision. i guess if my power is 200, this means to say i have 20/200 vision.
lately though… actually from beginning of the year, i started to realise that i could not read small print (like labels on bottles, map) well when i’m wearing contact lens, but if i don’t wear the contact lens, i can read the small print well!
ahh! people had been saying that if you can’t read small print means it is a sign of aging. as people get older, one find it difficult to read small print. but i find the strange thing is that i can read small print without any aid but when i wear glasses/contact lens, then i can’t read small print. well if i’m wearing glasses and when i want to read small print, it’s easy – just remove the glasses, then i can read… but what if when i’m wearing contact lens? i can’t simply remove my contact lens there and then. so the solution is for me to get…. reading glasses… or in other words, granny glasses! yeah yeah i am getting old.
what’s that you see above? pen? mini torch-light? hey, whaddya know, it’s my new reading glasses which i bought just 2 days ago. i never knew that reading glasses comes in so stylish, what with case and all that.
yes, the above photos shows the front (top pic) and back (bottom pic) view of the case of my reading glasses. as you can see, the back view, has a clip like a pen, in which i can clip it to my t-shirt front. the front view, the little greyish thing, sort of a lever, with an arrow, is where i can push it up and then pop up the glasses! yes, the case has a cool spring flip cover. when i push the lever up, the glasses will push the spring flip cover open and out pop out the glasses. cool little thing, i see.
and here you see the glasses itself, when it’s open up and close. it is very light and small (of course it has to be to fit in that slim case!). the lens are only 1/2 size of normal glasses. real granny looking glasses eh? you know, the kind you see granny has perching on her nose after she finish a knit and a purl and look up to admonish you.
well, luckily i will hardly need to wear this glasses. i will only wear them for a few minutes when i’m wearing contact lens, and when i need to read small print.
ok coming back to the very first picture you saw – what do you think it is? it is a magnetic metal piece to ‘hang’ the glasses. double sided tape can be found at the back for me to stick this to a wall or my CPU, in which then i can stick my glasses to it – all for easy retrieval of my glasses! the name ‘eye talk’ is there because well, ‘eye talk’ is the brand name of the glasses.
there you have it! though it is known as granny glasses but it look kind of cool. the glasses case as shown earlier with its front and back, comes in a plastic case! on the top picture is the glasses inside the case and the case inside the plastic case, and plus the glasses holder – 4 things all together. well you can see them all line up on the bottom picture.
after i bought this glasses, i began to surf for reading glasse and i realise that mine is not as cool as i thought, as i spy so many other cooler ones on the net, like from this site and this site.
