yip yip hurray!! our true malaysian idol, nicol, did it again!

she won the carol 2005 carol weymuller cup, a game played in new york yesterday.

i met dr. cecilia ng before twice and just managed to casually talk to her for few minutes. i doubt if she knows me. as for br. anthony rogers, i know him well and he knows me too. he’s working under the national office for human development, of which the penang office, penang office for human development is in the same office as my office. br. rogers never like to talk about his ISA detention days to us. at least here, now in the malaysiakini’s interview, i get to read a little of his account.

reason being they were of a different religion from them.

as jeff ooi said, this is worrying. yes, dead worrying indeed when the world is so full of hatred and go on a rampage taking innocent lives.

first of all, before you continue reading further, can you please read liewcf’s post here? you see, i had wanted to make some comments on that post of his but i found my comments to be so long (longer than his post!), that i thought, it’s better for me to write what i wanted to write in his comment box there, here in my blog instead. in this way, i can also go further then what i intend to say. haha.

so please do read lcf’s post (including the comments) first, so that you’ll know what i’m babbling about here, ok. be prepared for a long rant from me.

actually the above heading should be ‘what to refer to the indians in the hokkien language’.

i realise that in the comments of my previous post, i did not make myself so clear when i mentioned what to call the indians in hokkien…. when we only have the word ‘kelinga’ (or keling-nga) and nothing else. a number of people mistaken that when i asked that i meant calling directly (one to one) an indian as ‘kelinga’. no of course i don’t mean that. what i meant is what hokkien word to use for indian. as i stated as far as i know, we only have ‘kelinga’ to refer to the indians (not to call them by it). e.g. i’ll say “in the seminar, we have 23 chinese and 18 ‘kelinga’ (indians).” no i can’t use ‘intor lang’ as shanks suggested (in earlier comments) as that is not hokkien.

although in my opinion, i don’t find keling derogatory but it was not right for that bad-ruddin guy to use the word keling in parliament. i mean he could had just use ‘indian’.

bad-ruddin, the MP for jerai, the same one who shouted to lim kit siang, DAP opposition leader, to leave the country, if he is not happy, again this time caused an uproar in the house when he used the word ‘keling’.

two letter writers in malaysiakini jumped up to protest against this word ‘keling’ being derogatory - narayanasamy and premnath. narayanasamy pointed out the definition of ‘keling’ in the dictionary.

ladies, i.e. non muslim ladies, you thinking of going to the U after your form 5 or form 6? be prepared to comply with the U’s uniform - wearing of tudung (headscarf)! (at least for now just the international islamic U).

say thank you to the government for it, dears. the govt. has endorsed a university’s ruling that requires non-muslim women to wear headscarves on its campuses. yes, the U can make non muslims wear headscarf, so said our govt.

as if it’s not enough that foreign wives are discriminated on a few issues like foreign wives not allowed to work in our country (correct me if i’m wrong), a school in jinjang, KL, wants children with foreign mothers to pay extra school fees.

and why foreign moms and not foreign dads?

for those of you who have left a condolence message to pak lah at the office of the prime minister website, you would have received the following thank you email, which comes in bahasa and english. i append here, ad verbatim, the english one.

the email has subject ‘penghargaan terima kasih - YAB perdana menteri’. (appreciation of thanks - YAB prime minister).
