two sets of rules

remember when i blog on the expensive farewell? in which it was reported that more than RM5 million was spent for the farewell of the custom and excise dept. director general (DG) tan sri halil mutalib?

well, after that lots of news followed like with him denying the expensive farewells and all that. on 19 sept. it was reported that this DG wanted to lodged a report against his men as he was mad that his men were an ‘ungrateful lots’ who were out to tarnish his name. he said that while he was playing golf at the datai bay golf resort. then he added:

“i am paying for this golf game. everyone must pay from his or her own pockets.” he said.

“even the deputy prime minister (datuk seri najib tun razak) came here (on saturday) to play golf. why no one questioned him?” he said.

whoa! then all those ministers jumped up and said that the DG was being disrespectful to the DPM and requested him to apologise to the DPM… and he did.

before he did, i was hoping that he would not. i was wondering to myself, what was so wrong with that remark of his? oh, nobody should question the DPM? what if he really use the rakyat’s money to play golf? you mean the DPM can NOT do anything wrong? wait a minute… i think… it is rather the DPM is a bigger fry than the DG, so questioning the DG is ok but not the DPM.

is that it? 2 set of rules, i see… one for the smaller fries/subordinates and one for the bigger fries/bosses.

say i saw a sign on a grass that says “do not walk on the grass. fine RM500 if you do”. then i saw the DPM walking on the grass, so i too walks on it, but then i was stop and reprimanded and asked to pay the fine. “but the DPM walked on it just now” i protested “so i thought i could walk on it too.” and the respond would be:

“you are a nobody! the DPM is the DPM. he can walk on the grass as he like!”

gee, then the sign should actually read “do not walk on the grass if you are a nobody.”

well, sadly, yes in our society (all over the world) life’s like that – 2 sets of rules. don’t go so far as the DPM, just between you and your work boss, there might be 2 sets of rules… or 2 different views. any of you remember the famous but long time ago poem tittled “the boss and i“? that poem explain very well how people look at a boss and a subordinate… though it was meant as a joke but of course the truth is in there all right.

ok, this is just a blue monday rant because i know all of you would say what i blog on is so obvious – of course 2 sets of rules, of course you and the boss different – that’s why s/he is call BOSS, see.
