register when you buy a prepaid card
so the government finally decided on it… that prepaid handphone users must register their particulars, just like those postpaid users. somewhere in june this year, they (gomen) had already been mulling on this idea.
what’s the reason? according to energy, water and communications minister, datuk seri dr lim keng yaik”
“The decision was made not just because of recent SMS abuses, but also for national security as we saw the London bombs were triggered off by mobile phones,”
and he further added that this move will also help authorities trace culprits responsible for abusive calls and to check abuse of short messaging service (SMS).
what do you think? do you agree that prepaid users should register? i suppose there are some pros and cons. one of the cons is that having to register will put off many people buying the prepaid card. oh! but then how else would they get to use the phone? perhaps as someone discussed in mypdacafe forum, one can give fake details? haha. then that defeat the whole purpose of the government’s registration plan. they’ll end up not being able to trace the sender!
another thing is many people are paranoid about giving out their details. they are afraid their details might be use to be abused (er… is there such a phrase? but you know what i mean lah).
i’m not using prepaid so this matter is not so much concern for me, but my sister and niece use prepaid. oh, my niece is 15, which reminds me usually prepaid are used by very young people (still in school), and they too have to register?
i wonder if this move will see a decrease in the use of prepaid users.
