feast of st anne & society of st vincent de paul
i guess a number of you know of the feast of st anne. the week-long celebration at the church of st anne, bukit mertjam, had started last sunday (24 july). many had already been there, especially on 26 july, the real day of the feast. as usual, last year i was there. i took lots of pictures and blog about it too. actually last year, i was there 3 days to help in our society of st vincent de paul’s (SSVP) fund raising collection.
well, this year i’ll be there today in the afternoon. since i have to work in the morning, i can only go in the afternoon. i’ll be there to do the collection, then later on attend mass of course. some of our SSVP members were already there the past days (we take turns to be there to collect donations). last year, our collection was good as we had a strategic place – right in front of the church’s main door. however i heard that this year, we were not allowed to station there but to station where all the other stalls are. i heard that our station will be next to the ice-cream stall.
this is our collection tin. we just use ordinary milo or nestum tins, and paste the paper with our name, logo and slogan on to the tins. last year, the words on the paper were red in colour and we used our old logo. this year, the words are blue and we now use our new logo – a symbol of a fish (and more – there is an explanation of the logo – but now i’m not talking about the society, so i won’t post it here).the above 2 pictures shows the same tin – one side with the logo, and one side with the words ‘help us to help the poor’ in english, bahasa, mandarin and tamil.
i will probably be there around 2 or 3pm i guess. in the morning, some other members would be there already. well, to you who do go to the feast, when you spy us, please do a good deed by helping us to help the poor, ok? you can recognise us by the tins we hold!
