bribe to pass

the malay mail carried a story yesterday on bribe to JPJ personnel for driving test.

seems that a 63 years old man complained he had to pay in total RM600 for his 3 sons to pass the test.

a 19 years old college student also said that his driving instructor had ‘announced’ to him and the other students taking the driving test that they had to pay RM200 to guarantee a pass.

hmm… what else is new eh. i’m sure many would agree with me that paying a bribe to JPJ is such a common practise. as some of the malay mail readers pointed out, this practise had been going on for years. well, i’m sure of the RM200 bribe, the driving instructor also receive a cut out of it?

not honestly, how many of you have paid a bribe to pass your driving test? ok, i’ll be honest and said i did… for my motorbike test lah (me no drive car one). couldn’t remember the amount though but it was something less than RM100. that was about 10 years ago. it could be as low as RM20 or so. i remember the driving instructor saying something like “you have to pay extra RM20. have to one. everybody also have to. pay this extra RM20 then you will pass your test easily.” so i being the stupid one, and also i felt like he was forcing me to pay, so i gave in… but what do you know, i did not pass my test!! er… but it was clearly my fault because i fail the ‘figure 8’ test. just at the first turning, my leg touch the ground. so i had to re-sit the second time. er… couldn’t remember if i did pay the bribe again the second time around.

meanwhile, while we heard so much on student’s side, their stories of how they had to pay a bribe to ensure they pass, it seems that now the JPJ testers and driving school instructors wants to tell their side of the stories too. this came after a 20 years old woman reported that she was asked to pay the bribe. she had even identified the tester.

well, good luck to the JPJ. they are now looking into her story to find if there are any discrepancies.
