oldies are goodies (like me. ahem!)
once upon a time there was this little boy in an orphange. he long for mummy’s kisses and daddy’s smiles but he got none. he saw people coming in the orphange and adopting his friends but people always never want to adopt him. he realise this is because he is blind. yes, he is a nobody’s child. he gets so lonely that he wish he could die, because he feel that if he walks the streets of heaven, he can finally see.
in another time, there was this young man who his before his father died in prison made him promise not to do what he (the father) did. his father asked him to walk away from trouble and reminded him that he doesn’t have to fight to be a man. so he kept to his father’s promise. but then the people label him coward of the county. one day his girlfriend was raped by a group of men. he wanted to fight back but he remember his promise to his father… but he lost his temper when the rapist call him yellow… and with his gun, he kill all of them. quietly he said to his father, sometimes you have to fight to be a man.
next story. there was this man who had done time in prison and had decided to return to his wife. he had written to his wife that if she still wants him, show him some sign – tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree near their house; and if he didn’t see the ribbon, he will know what to do – to continue on his journey and not get home. he was travelling in a bus. he was afraid to look as the bus approach the old oak tree so asked the driver to look out for him. suddenly he heard loud cheers and claps from all the bus passengers. he looked up and he was shocked! he saw a hundreds yellow ribbons round the old oak tree! his darling accepted him!
then there was this young showgirl named lola who works in a bar called ‘copacabana’. as she works there everyday, the bartender, tony and her develop a close friendship and eventually they both fell in love. they had good times together… until one day, this rich flashy guy, name rico came to the bar. when lola finished her show, he call lola over and try to get fresh with her. naturally rico can’t stand it and intervene. gunshots rang out… and the next minute, tony was lying down dead. poor lola. 30 years later on, as she reflected, she had lost her youth, her man… and her mind.

as i mentioned the songs above (in bold), here are the lyrics. have a look at them and see the stories.

i love oldies. oldies are goodies… like me. ahem! (i am an oldie lah since i’m not a youth. i’m an aunty.). i love oldies especially those like the ones i mentioned with some touching stories. and they are beautiful songs with wonderful melodies. who could ever forget the song vincent by don maclean, in which he wrote about the famous artist vincent van gogh? (incidentally, percolator had blog about this song here… er… actually she blog more on vincent the man, not the song, and depression.).
and who could ever forget the evergreen story of how tommy went for a stock car race to get some money so he could marry laura? tell laura i love her, he said, as i have something to do.
yes there are many more oldies which are goodies, beautiful songs that are filled wish so much meanings. i can go on and on reminscing about those golden oldies but hey, by doing so, it will be telling that i’m growing old. lol! better you tell me! don’t be surprise that there are some youngsters who like oldies.
