arrest and detention
several bloggers had blog about the report of the royal commission to enhance the operation and management of the royal malaysian police force, so i’m not going to blog on it in full but instead point to you two very good blogs about it, from my two ‘parents’ blog i.e. jeff ooi and lone. lone’s blog is especially very good and informative.
i’m going to talk anyway, about the royal commission’s recommendation for a code of practice for arrest and detention.
remember my blog on the human rights workshop organised by suaram that i attended? well, i specifically highlight on the session ‘police power’ which talk about our rights when police arrest/detain us. mr arut, the speaker, also did mentioned about our rights while in police’s lock-up. all these rights come under the provisions of the criminal procedure code (CPC). it is not a surprise that many people had alleged that the police did not comply with the CPC. thus it is good to learn that the royal commission had proposed the setting up of code of practice for arrest and detention. i’m sure this will benefit us as citizen with rights.
