weekend at swiss garden resort in lumut

well here i am back from my trip to the swiss garden resort and spa damai laut. it was a great weekend. the resort is lovely and is huge! so huge that in the beginning we got lost going from our rooms to the conference room, conference room to the coffee house, or vice versa. it was only on the 2nd day that we managed to get used to the place and knows our way from place A to B easily.

one of the lovely scenery in the resort… rock fountain with artificial pelicans. this is located at the passage from the conference room to the restaurant.

it was a fun and enriching weekend. fun because of the games we played. enriching because of the input shared by the speaker, fr. fabian dicom.

on the first day (friday), we were at the beach to play some games. it was fun to be young again and act like kids or youth. yeah most of us in the SSVP group are not youth but ‘older people’. (ahem). we had a few group games like picking the bones, captain ball, filling water with plastic. for the captain ball game, it was fun to note that all of us were out for the kill as we pushed each other and jostle for the ball. as the tide was high, we had only a small ‘sand’ playing area. when many of us fell (due to the pushing), some fell on the water and get wet all over! while waiting for the games to begin, some of us try digging for ‘siput’ and surprisingly there were quite a lot to be found, even though we just use our legs to kick the sand (for digging). but we did not have time to continue digging as we had to play.

towards the evening we had indoor games, and i was glad that i won in 2 games. a general knowledge game/quiz. we had to think of words that had the syllable ‘cat’ in it from some hints given. 10 questions all together and the most no. of correct answers was only 4! and 3 persons, include me got 4 of these answers correct, therefore the 3 of us got the prizes. we had to go for drawing lots to see who get 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and lucky me pick the 1st prize! the other game that i won was a drinking coca-cola contest. normally i don’t drink coca-cola so i was surprised when at the contest i emerged as the 2nd winner! (missed 1st by a few seconds).

on the 2nd day we had some interesting talk from fr. fabian, who allowed workshops and interactive activities which made the whole day session not boring. it was interesting to note that at the last session where the groups were told to list down two injustices happenning now and what will our response be, all the other 6 groups choose injustices in the church (but 3 groups injustices were irrelevant!) and only the group that i was in choose injustices in the country. we listed down racial discrimination and abuse of power. i make sure i mentioned corruption under abuse of power!

in the evening we were at the beach again for s siput (clam) digging competition, but it was a disappointment when we did not get to find many siput. yesterday though, there were a lot of siput. after the competition, some of them went to the other side of the beach, where they said more siput can be found, while i, my sister and 5 friends went to the swimming pool for a dip. we stayed at this section where there is a fountain, and it was great to have the fountain falling on our back like a massage. seems like we were the only one at that this section of the pool. great!

sunday morning, we had a mass by the beach. fantastic! first time i was in a mass by the beach admist nature. we had the roaring of the wave as music to accompany us throughout the one hour mass. in the homily section, instead of giving us homily, fr. fabian gave us 10mins. free time to walk by the beach to ‘be in touch with the lord’s creation’. we used the beach bar for our mass. it was early (7.00am) therefore it was not in used.

special mass by the beach.

the food there was quite okay. wouldn’t say it was nice though. only the breakfast was nice. one thing that bothered us a lot was that, there were many houseflies in the restaurant. so many of them flying around, landing on the food here and there. it was amazing we didn’t end up with stomach upset.

it was bye bye to the swiss garden resort on sunday after lunch. the bus came at 3.00pm and we reach penang at 7.00pm.

i took many pictures – about 30 but most of them are not very clear. seems that i have not brushed up on my photography skill yet. anyway you can find some nice aerial pictures here in this site. also you can find some pictures of the resort from one of dr liew’s post here dated september last year. seemed that he had more than one post about the swiss garden resort damai laut.
