SMS merdeka greeting

yet another way of showing your patriotism – SMS your merdeka message, and in that process stand a chance to win prizes!

this sms merdeka message is obiviously a contest… and a contest involve ‘chance’ i.e. gambling! wasn’t there a fatwa out to ban sms contests? and why is, of all media, the government’s, bernama, started this contest?

actually i’m against sms contests. never participated in it. i’m not against it though because i’m against gambling but i know sms contest is something dreamed up by companies to suck my cash dry… so i’m not going to be a sucker to make the companies rich. i’m sure many of you had already read about malaysians spending RM7.5m on sms to vote for the favourites in akadmein fantasia (as blog here by lone and idlan). one of idlan’s commentator, faiez, who works in one of these companies, gave an interesting info. on how the sms charges collected were shared. quoted verbatim here:

So… let me explain onhow this SMS thingy works… usually a project consist of 2 or more parties… for example, the Malaysian Idol, they are 3 partners, Telcos (maxis, etc, etc), Aggregator (my company) and Content Providers (ppl who has the content for download).

There are other means of SMS industry… like information on demand, mobile banking and stuff…which i think quite good… but now the most wanted is the SMS votes and chat and downloads. I’m working in a SMS company…. but hell I’ve never once vote… heheheh…. rugi duit la!!! heheheh

oops. actually i’m digressing from the man topic here… which is about sending sms merdeka message to show your patriotism. well, that topic and this spending lots on SMS are related anyway. so now it seems that they want to make money out of your patriotism.
