what is undemocratic?

read this from bernama on what UMNO vice-president, tan sri muhammad muhd taib had to say, especially the last paragraph, which i reproduced here:

On the views by some that the no-contest decision was undemocractic, he said party unity was more important. “Of course, we uphold democracy but the decision not to contest is also democractic.”

huh? what in the world is this guy saying? “the decision not to contest is democratic” ?? gila! if a party doesn’t allows contest, it is deem undemocratic for sure. so what is this guy saying that the decision not to contest is undemocratic all about???

also this thing about party unity… just because there is a contest for the top post, the party will crumble in disunity? if the UMNO members really value unity and wants to stand by pak lah, they shouldn’t fear the contest by ku li. let ku li contest but do not nominate him, since they stand by pak lah… and for unity sake… what’s wrong with that? solve everything! democracy in UMNO! unity in UMNO!
