parliament

ok so we voted for them to be in the parliament… they are in…. then what? will they attend all the parliament seatings (or is call proceedings)? what will they be saying/doing in parliament? we put them there and we cannot get to see how they conduct their ‘business’?

parliament house in KL.

anyway what is parliament?

i get the following from a cartoon drawn by someone with the name of wilcox, which in turn i found it at the aliran charter 2000 website (aliran said it was from a foreign paper, probably australia).

parliament is a reality tv show where a bunch of men and a few women share a house and make teams and one team gets to be boss and they all argue and shout and avoid answering questions directly. and at the end of three years, the viewers get to vote and the team that did the best job of tricking them gets to be the boss for the next three years.

well, this certainly is true for our parliament too, don’t you think so? we voted them to be in parliament. so what do you think they will do in parliament? what is your idea of parliament? many like to joke that it is a ‘shouting house’ where each MP shouted at each other and argue like kids. remember a long time ago when lim kit siang and karpal singh were very strong in parliament? those were also the time we see childish brawls in parliament like MPs throwing erasers at each other and calling each other names!

do you think parliament proceedings should be telecast live like in some countries? i think it should. after all we the rakyat voted for the MPs to be in parliament and so we need to see/hear what they are doing in parliament… live… instead of waiitng until the next day for the news. beside watching it live, we will know the true picture because as we know the mainstream media is usually bias and does not report accurately. we might get to see too how’s the attendance in parliament. seems that parliament usually does not get 100% attendance. many MPs like to play truant.

well i guess this is really a wishful wish where no matter how i wish, i have to keep on wishing and wishing non stop as i’m sure the government will never allow parliament proceedings to be telecast live.
