accidents during festive occasions
why is it that each time there is a balik kampung exodus during a festive occasion, accidents tend to be on the increase? up-to-date the news reported that there had been 48 people killed in road accidents in the past three days. and this figure is only for now – before hari raya. what about after hari raya, when people are returning from their raya holiday? will the numbers be increased again?
there seems to be a conflicting of report in malaysiakini and NST. malaysiakini stated there were 48 deaths from more than 800 accidents, while NST stated these 48 deaths came from over 2,000 accidents! me feel NST is more correct. NST also had highlighted where most of these accidents occurred.
“the most number of accidents occurred on trunk roads with 284 reported and six deaths while highways registered the least number of accidents of 75 but the highest death rate of eight.” reports NST.
the police had launched an ops sikap, which is aimed to reduce the number of accidents during this raya celebration. i wonder what was being done for the ops sikap? if there are still so many accidents happening, what is this ops sikap for?
sometimes i feel that the number of accidents that happened during festive occasion is more or less on par with the number of accidents that happened during non festive occasion. only thing is since it is not a festive occasion, maybe there is no record of the accidents. i mean sure accidents happened all the time.. .and if happen during normal time, the accidents won’t be highlighted that much, but when it happens during festive occasion, we hear all the hoo-haa here and there (because it is so dramatic you see e.g. pregnant wife returning to celebrate raya with family).
and why do you think all these accidents happened? i guess the no. 1 reason is speeding, especially among young drivers. and of course we have carelessness and recklessness too. oh… but speeding also comes under recklessness right?
