the penang ferry
excerpt:
The ferry is to Penang what the Sultan Abdul Samad building is to Kuala Lumpur, what the cable car is to San Francisco and what the red double-decker bus is to London. The lumbering flat-bottomed vessel that plies the three-kilometre North Channel between the island and the mainland gives as much identity and character to Penang as nasi kandar.

i agree. the penang ferry is one of penang’s tourist attraction. many visitors to penang, usually will make sure that they board the ferry when they are in penang. children, especially enjoy the ferry ride.
whenever i’m aboard the ferry, more often than not, i see people armed with cameras, taking photos of themselves in the ferry or of scenes seen from the ferry. they were out-station people or tourists. they looked so happy and thrilled to be on board the ferry.
i really hope that the ferry service would not be stop, especially now when there’s news of widening the present penang bridge… AND of a 2nd bridge coming up. if these happens (the widening and 2nd bridge), the ferry service would have less passengers, thus suffering further loss, and thus a reason for it to stop service!
