back

back from the weekend seminar. it was a good interesting seminar where i get to learn a lot of things…. but a the same time, it was one that really bogged me down. was so busy running around, seeing to this and that.

it was a seminar (actually we call it ‘formation’ but most people don’t understand that word!) organised by our society of st vincent de paul. me being the secretary was very busy. we ended up the 2 nights-3 days seminar with our AGM.

stayed at the catholic seaside holiday resort, stella maris. had to wake up early because i was given in charge of the keys to the dining hall, chapel and conference room, which means to say i have to be up early to open the doors!

as expected, there was heavy traffic on saturday. we were suppose to start at 1.30pm with registration but at that time only less than 10 turned up. at 2.00pm suppose to be the proper session began but many out-station members did not turned up yet. so we had to start at 3.00pm. 2 groups of members from taiping, arrived at 4.00pm!! they said they left around noon and encountered heavy traffic along the penang bridge and a few other roads.

i was rather unhappy over the AGM because of 2 factors. there doesn’t seems to be proper procedures followed, when a matter raised by ‘someone’ via writing was not discussed under ‘general’. the other factor was someone (not naming names or gender) gave the impression that i’m a bad secretary that i did not record my previous AGM minutes properly. ‘that someone’ insisted he/she was appointed as ‘one position’ but i put in another person’s name instead. but i remember ‘that someone’ was not the appointed one and even said i have proof as i sitll have the draft jotted minutes with me (but did not bring it with me to the AGM). but that someone insisted so the members had to give in to ‘that someone’ and they decide what we could do is minuted down the board tendered an apology to ‘that someone’. i mumbled to myself ‘ok but the apology is not from me. i know i am right’. really fed up and pissed off!! spoil my mood! i will go home and make sure i get the proof to show. i know what i was doing. i don’t need someone to come tell me i should record my minutes properly. ok enough grumbling.

one thing i learned from attending seminars, conferences or even one day session, is that we eat a lot! we seem to be eating non stop! there is breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner (and sometimes supper). it’s like eating every 2 hours or so. e.g. breakfast at 9.00am, morning tea at 11.00am, lunch at 1.00pm, afternoon tea at 4.00pm, dinner at 7.00pm. wow! at home, i don’t eat that much! at home, it’s only lunch and dinner. i suppose if i were to attend a 5-days seminar, i would return home, putting on lots of extra kilo. 🙂
