col had responded to you correctly. it makes a lot of difference if the bahasa section is not allowed and indeed is very 'harmful' to us catholic community esp. the sabahans and sarawakians. this is the issue here - about the word allah and allowing or not allowing herald to use bahasa.
what you said re: UMNO said something then non muslim panic and so on is NOT the issue... because hey, this happens everytime, isn't it? at every incident, so it cannot be an issue.

toni
i'm sure the catholic church will not withdraw it's writ of summons.
as to your Qs about forgetting and forgiving, well i can't speak for the catholic church (or rather the archbishop of KL, who is herald's publisher) but i guess sometimes, something do need some forgiving and forgetting... esp. when you know ultimately you can't win at all. the odds are too much against you.

sharing
thanks for dropping in and sharing your poem. :)
yes herald getting its permit is nothing to be overjoyed for... since it is something which herald should get in the first case, without all this bising-bising over allah and BM. nevertheless i am relief that herald is allowed to continue with its BM section

kittykat
long time no see.
yes precisely what i trying to tell toni and sharing (your first line).
ya nowadays most people are more conversant in BM than english. so to deny non muslim publication in BM is indeed an infringement of our freedom of religion.

anonymous
hmm... maybe...

col
well some may see it as the gomen digging their own grave but some won't.
do not vote BN if you don't want to see UMNO's power getting stronger!

juslo
er... i wouldn't really go that far to say this is an indication of triumph for free speech. in the first place, herald's publication permit should not be an issue at all but because of one stupid guy who made so much fuss about allah (who is not even a mufti or religious teacher). it became such a big issue that it turns into a sandiwara - now it look like oh the gomen is so kind to grant the permit.

Huh..if this is really the government's election strategy, diverting the mass' view so they won't see the bigger picture, i think they really are digging their own grave.
I used to be apathetic of the political scenario in Malaysia, now I'm pretty sure which side I'm on.

An elections ploy? Is this just a temporary permit which will be withdrawn after the general elections (which will see the BN back in power with yet a 2/3 majority) Then the whole sandiwara will start all over again

I guess half a loaf is better than none.

Its ironic that the "success" of the National Education Policy has resulted in a large part of the population, including Non-Malays who are more conversant in Bahasa than in English.
Disallowing Bibles and other religious writing to be published in Bahasa is tantamount to restricting the right of such Non-Mulsim people to practice their religion.

Getting what it should be has nothing to Hurrah!
But at least a question to be posted,
"Why it is so and the consequences of so"l
Especially religion talks about spiritual!

A person can act stupid
but not an officer of noted position to fuss!
To us, he is part of the Government working for us.
To the world at large, he is to show what Malaysia Government is all about!
A word that is common to all can become Muslim in a spark!
Anything else to be sparked?
With court case that cannot even be fast!
The angry and misery of most Malaysian were matched.
.
An important religion worldwide, not second to Muslim, at the challenge of one mug!
What kind of Face, or Guts, a Malaysian High Official are allowed?
Will the Government answered
or siding away as in the past?
A shadow is casted where permit is a must!

This "Brave" gentleman has caused an "amazing" thing to be put on the world table without mask!!

and are we so happy with the renewal as to forget to go after the one who started it all ? are we always so forgiving and forgetfulling ?
We should go after that guy or those guys or whoever shouldn't we ?

do we always forgive someone who throws shit at us and then say its ok bruder ? that we certainly encourage him/then to do it again and again , making us really innocents fools indeed !

Is that kind of attitude called the non-muslim disease ? If so no wonder those UMNO people behave like that with impunity and so on

Maverick, a significant number of Catholics in Sabah and Sarawak go to Malay mass and reads their Bible in Malay. In fact we have done it I guess since the Second Vatican Council.
The last time I check, Sabah and Sarawak are still in Malaysia and the people are still Malaysians. I guess that's significant enough to be 'something', is it not?
Don't make sentences as though you have made a comprehensive view of the whole situation.
