lady luck is elusive
so how many of you are trying out the star’s crossword puzzle, hoping to cash in on a big reward one day?
many years back when the puzzle was here, i used to be crazy over it, spending lots of time over it… looking up for the answers with a dictionary in one hand. week after week, i was hoping to receive a call from the star informing me i had won… but i waited and waited in vain. weeks after weeks, in the paper, i read about who and who, who win prizes but it was always other people, not me. poor me.
for the latest, last week’s puzzle, i had no time at all to spend hours over it… not even an hour! was pretty busy these days so did not find time to look up the answers, and it was a ‘rush job’ that i did it within 1/2 hour! someone had recommend 2 web-sites which can help with solving crossword puzzle. i had wanted to go there to try it out but as usual no time. for those who are interested, try jumble & crossword and jumble.org. they are not answers of course but possible answers.
i guess many of us, though we know that winning is very highly impossible, yet we want to try our luck. it’s just part of human nature in wanting to… er… be greedy? hopeful for a fortune falling on their lap?
look at the number of people buying sports toto, 3D, 4D, magnum and lottery tickets. everyday or every week, they will buy their lucky numbers hoping to strike it rich one day. even if they haven’t strike for years and years, they will continue to buy and buy continually non stop. don’t they know that all the money they spend buying the numbers for years and did not get anything, if they were to give to me for safe-keeping, all it add up to, it will come to more or less a substantial winning for them!
though the crossword puzzle requires skills a lot, sometimes luck also matters. who knows if our luck deem that our mind is the same as the crossword puzzle creator’s mind, then we will win! there are many possible answers but the correct answer will be the ones the creator thought up.
in our lives, we are forever chasing after luck (not only in contests and all that but also in our jobs, relationship, etc). luck, however seems to be very elusive. sometimes it seems that the more we chase after it, the harder it is for us to attain it. there’s a belief that certain people are just gifted with ‘luck’, while certain people don’t. i don’t really know but in a way i do believe it partly.
it’s a good thing that i don’t buy numbers, though all my family do. the only thing i do buy regularly is the lottery ticket. twice a month. i’ll buy 2 or 3 tickets at one go, so it comes to (if 3 tickets) RM18 per month. that’s not bad, considering with RM18 per month, i might get RM10,000 or a million dollars one day! haha! ok ok, i’ll dream on…
I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. (Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826))
